SIFF Presents:
An Evening with Warren Miller
November 20th, 2011 - Benaroya Hall
Doors Open & Cocktails Begin at 5pm | Event Begins at 6pm
SIFF, in conjunction with the Warren Miller Freedom Foundation is proud to announce a celebration of the life and work of legendary action sports filmmaker Warren Miller. Join us this November 20th, 2011 for SIFF’s presentation of the Golden Space Needle Award to Warren Miller at Seattle’s prestigious Benaroya Hall. An exciting and entertaining evening celebrating Warren Miller’s six decades of filmmaking will include a live ‘on stage’ Q&A with Warren, hosted by Seattle’s own Neal Thompson. Followed by screening one of Warren’s favorite films, “The Gods Must Be Crazy”, this event brings one of the nation’s largest film festival organizations together with an American icon.
"The Gods Must Be Crazy is the best use of a motion picture camera and good story writing without using anything else to change the viewers mind.
The story is very simple: the result of finding a Coca Cola bottle changes an African village forever. No high-tech, high-budget effects, car chases, or explosions...just good old fashioned story telling and great camera and editing work.
I have not seen the film since it came out nearly thirty years ago and yet I still remember every scene well."
-Warren Miller
"This unlikely treasure from South Africa was a surprise sensation in 1981 — breaking box-office records around the world. At first glance THE GODS MUST BE CRAZY is an unlikely companion piece to the works of Warren Miller – however on closer scrutiny one can easily ascertain that there is a close connection in how they both have a knack for finding humor in the interaction between nature and humans. It is a fitting film for Warren to re-visit as we honor him and his extraordinary career."
